Charged zone

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000636

A formation interval whose pressure has been raised above its normal level by fluid pumped or leaked into it, for example drilling fluid, treatment fluid or injected water from a nearby well. The extra pressure takes time to bleed off, and drilling or cementing through a charged zone, especially a shallow one, risks an influx, crossflow between zones or even a blowout.
