Copolymer

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000853

A polymer derived from two or more dissimilar types of monomer molecules linked together in the same chain. The properties of the resulting material differ from those of homopolymers made from the individual monomers. Many drilling fluid additives, such as fluid-loss control agents and viscosifiers, are copolymers designed to perform under specific downhole temperature and salinity conditions; an example is the acrylamide/acrylate copolymer.
