Anoxic

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000140

Describing an environment completely devoid of dissolved oxygen, often found in deep water bodies or sediments. Anoxic conditions are favorable for the preservation of organic matter because decomposition by aerobic bacteria is inhibited. This preservation is a prerequisite for the formation of source rocks for oil and gas.
