Magma

Molten rock material generated within the Earth's crust or upper mantle, containing dissolved gases and suspended crystals. When magma erupts onto the surface, it is called lava. The cooling and solidification of magma form igneous rocks, which can sometimes act as seals or basement for hydrocarbon systems.
