Vesicular
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004042
Describing a rock texture characterized by numerous small cavities, called vesicles, which are formed by the expansion of gas bubbles in cooling lava or magma. While common in volcanic rocks like basalt and pumice, this texture can create porosity that may store hydrocarbons if the vesicles are interconnected. The size and distribution of vesicles depend on the magma's viscosity and gas content.
