Normal incidence

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002565

The condition where a seismic wave strikes an interface between two different rock layers perpendicularly, meaning the angle of incidence is zero degrees. At normal incidence, the wave reflects directly back along its original path and does not undergo mode conversion. This simplified case is often used in theoretical calculations and for understanding basic reflection coefficients.
