Critical reflection

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000891

A seismic reflection that occurs when the angle of incidence at an interface equals the critical angle. At this point, the reflected wave amplitude can be significantly enhanced, and a refracted wave travels along the interface. This phenomenon is observed in wide-angle seismic data and provides information about the velocity contrast across the interface.
