Dispersion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003302
The separation of electromagnetic radiation into its constituent wavelengths or frequencies. This phenomenon occurs when radiation passes through a medium where its refractive index varies with wavelength, causing different wavelengths to refract at different angles. A prism or diffraction grating can be used to achieve this separation, producing a spectrum.
