Normal dispersion of the refractive index

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008070

The phenomenon where the refractive index of a material decreases as the wavelength of light increases, or equivalently, increases with increasing frequency. This behavior is typical for most transparent materials in the visible light spectrum. It results in shorter wavelengths, such as blue light, bending more than longer wavelengths, like red light, when passing through a prism.
