Pore gas

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002864

Gas occupying the pores of reservoir rock as a free phase, a quantity also called interstitial gas and counted separately from gas adsorbed on organic matter or mineral surfaces. In shale gas assessments the total gas in place is the sum of pore gas and adsorbed gas. The two are distinguished because adsorbed gas is released only as pressure falls, whereas pore gas flows readily.
