Pore pressure
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002865
The pressure exerted by fluids within the pore spaces of a rock formation. This pressure, also known as formation pressure, counteracts the lithostatic pressure from the overlying rock column and influences the effective stress on the rock matrix. Normal pore pressure corresponds to the hydrostatic pressure of a continuous column of formation water from the surface, approximately 0.465 pounds per square inch per foot (psi/ft) for saline water.
