Shale baseline
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003350
A reference line on a well log, such as a gamma ray or spontaneous potential log, that represents the response of a pure shale formation. This baseline is used to differentiate shale from other lithologies and to quantify the volume of shale in a reservoir rock. The shale baseline is typically established by identifying thick, uniform shale beds in the logged interval.
