Vapor extraction (vapex)

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004006

A recovery method for heavy oil and bitumen that injects a solvent vapor, such as propane or butane, into the reservoir to reduce the oil's viscosity. The solvent dissolves into the bitumen, making it mobile enough to flow to production wells. This process operates at lower temperatures and pressures than steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) and can be more energy-efficient.
