Steam chamber
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003606
A zone within a heavy oil reservoir where injected steam heats the oil, reducing its viscosity and allowing it to drain by gravity to a producing well. This chamber expands upwards and outwards from the injection point, creating a mobile oil bank. The Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) process relies on the formation and growth of a steam chamber.
