Oil swelling
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002604
The increase in volume of crude oil when it absorbs an injected gas, such as carbon dioxide or a hydrocarbon gas. This phenomenon reduces the oil's viscosity and increases its mobility, making it easier to displace from the reservoir rock. Oil swelling is a key mechanism in miscible and immiscible gas injection enhanced oil recovery processes, contributing to improved oil recovery.
