CO2 injection
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000720
An enhanced oil recovery method in which carbon dioxide is injected into a reservoir. The gas dissolves in the oil, lowering its viscosity and swelling its volume, and above the minimum miscibility pressure it can mix fully with lighter oils. In heavy oil the process is immiscible, so recoveries are more modest, and CO2 left in the reservoir counts as stored carbon.
