Sweet corrosion
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003724
Corrosion that occurs in oil and gas production systems due to the presence of carbon dioxide (CO2) dissolved in water. This acidic environment attacks carbon steel, leading to thinning of pipe walls and equipment failure. The rate of corrosion is influenced by temperature, pressure, and the concentration of CO2 and water.
