Ringworm corrosion

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003174

A localized form of corrosion that appears as circular or elliptical grooves on the internal surface of tubular goods, often resembling the pattern of a ringworm infection. This type of corrosion is frequently observed in heat-affected zones of welds in carbon steel pipes, where microstructural changes make the material more susceptible to attack. It can lead to wall thinning and eventual failure of the pipeline.
