Foam flooding

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001523

An enhanced oil recovery method where a gas, such as carbon dioxide or steam, is injected with a surfactant solution to generate foam within the reservoir. The foam, a dispersion of gas in liquid, has a higher apparent viscosity and lower mobility than the gas alone, which reduces gas fingering through high-permeability zones. This technique is distinct from simple gas injection by its use of surfactants to alter fluid mobility ratios.
