Moon pool

An opening in the hull or deck of an offshore drilling vessel or platform, extending through to the water below. This central opening allows for the deployment and retrieval of drilling equipment, such as the drill string, risers, and subsea blowout preventers, directly into the sea. It provides a sheltered area for operations, reducing the impact of waves and currents.
