Tall oil

A viscous, dark-colored liquid by-product derived from the pulping of pine wood, primarily used as an emulsifier and defoamer in drilling fluids. It is a mixture of fatty acids, resin acids, and unsaponifiable matter. This natural product can also serve as a lubricant or a wetting agent in certain mud formulations.
