Condensed section

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000803

A thin, fine-grained marine stratigraphic interval characterized by an extremely low rate of sediment accumulation. It forms during the time of maximum flooding of a continental shelf, when the shoreline is at its most landward position and clastic sediment input is trapped near the coast. These sections are rich in pelagic microfossils, authigenic minerals like glauconite and phosphate, and organic matter, making them excellent correlation markers on well logs and seismic profiles.
