Bathyal

Relating to the marine depositional environment of the continental slope, located between the shallower neritic zone and the deeper abyssal zone. This zone is characterized by low light, low temperatures, and fine-grained sediments deposited by turbidity currents and pelagic settling. The bathyal zone extends from the edge of the continental shelf, at about 200 meters, down to approximately 2,000 meters water depth.
