Littoral

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002198

Relating to the depositional environment of a lake or sea shore, extending from the high water line to the shallow offshore zone where sunlight penetrates to the bottom. Sediments deposited in this zone, such as beach sands and nearshore bars, are subject to wave and tidal action, resulting in well-sorted and rounded grains. Ancient littoral deposits can form high-quality reservoir rocks due to their favorable porosity and permeability characteristics.
