Glauconite

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001707

A green, iron-rich phyllosilicate mineral of the mica group, commonly found in marine sedimentary rocks, particularly sandstones and shales. It forms in shallow marine environments under reducing conditions. The presence of glauconite can indicate depositional environments and can sometimes affect the interpretation of well logs due to its radioactive potassium content.
