Chlorite

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000658

A group of phyllosilicate minerals that form in metamorphic and diagenetic environments, characterized by their green color. Chlorite is a common clay mineral found in sedimentary rocks, particularly sandstones, where it can line pore spaces. This lining can inhibit quartz overgrowth and preserve porosity, but it can also react with acidic drilling fluids, causing formation damage.
