Uranium

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004003

A naturally occurring radioactive element, often found in trace amounts within sedimentary rocks. Its decay series produces gamma rays that are detected by spectral gamma ray logging tools. High concentrations of uranium can indicate organic-rich shales or certain types of sandstone, and its presence must be accounted for when interpreting total gamma ray logs for shale volume.
