Natural gamma ray spectroscopy
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002508
A well logging technique that measures the energy spectrum of natural gamma rays emitted by radioactive isotopes in formation rocks. It quantifies the concentrations of potassium, uranium, and thorium, which are indicators of clay content, organic matter, and mineralogy. This log is used for lithology identification and shale volume estimation.
