Reefal
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003074
Describing a rock, formation, or environment associated with the growth and accumulation of organic reefs, built by organisms like corals, algae, and stromatoporoids. Reefal limestones and dolomites can form excellent hydrocarbon reservoirs due to their high initial porosity and susceptibility to dissolution, which enhances pore space. These structures form distinct geological features with complex internal geometries.
