Anomalous

Describing a deviation from the expected or normal geological pattern or measurement. An anomaly in geophysical surveys, such as gravity or magnetic data, can indicate subsurface structures or variations in rock properties that may be associated with hydrocarbon accumulations. Geochemical anomalies in soil gas can also point to underlying petroleum reservoirs.
