Bouguer anomaly
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000427
The difference between the observed gravity value at a station and the theoretical gravity value, after corrections for elevation, topography, and the gravitational effect of the rock mass between the station and a reference datum. This anomaly reflects lateral density variations in the subsurface, which can indicate geological structures like salt domes or sedimentary basins. It is expressed in milligals (mGal).
