Lithofacies
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002189
A body of rock characterized by specific lithological attributes, such as rock type, sedimentary structures, color, and fossil content, that reflect a particular depositional environment. Geologists use lithofacies analysis to interpret past environments and predict the distribution of reservoir quality rocks. For example, a fluvial channel lithofacies might consist of coarse-grained sandstone with cross-bedding.
