Lithologic

Relating to the physical characteristics of a rock or rock formation, including its composition, texture, grain size, and color. A lithologic description provides a detailed account of the rock type, such as sandstone, shale, or limestone, based on visual examination of cuttings or core samples. Well logs are correlated with these descriptions to create a lithologic column, which is a graphical representation of the rock layers penetrated by a well.
