Geologic time scale
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001669
A chronological system of measurement relating stratigraphy to time, used by geoscientists to date rock formations and geological events. It divides Earth's history into a hierarchy of named intervals, including eons, eras, periods, epochs, and ages, based on the fossil record and radiometric dating. This framework provides a standard vocabulary for describing the age of source rocks, reservoirs, and seals, as well as the timing of trap formation and hydrocarbon migration.
