Trend

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004481

A general direction or orientation of a geological feature, such as a fault system, a fold axis, or a sedimentary fairway containing reservoir-quality rock. Geologists identify trends by mapping data from wells, seismic surveys, and outcrops to understand the controls on deposition or deformation. A trend map may show the alignment of sand bodies, the direction of maximum permeability, or the path of hydrocarbon migration.
