Dipole

A pair of equal and opposite charges or poles separated by a small distance. In atmospheric science, this concept applies to electric dipoles within thunderclouds, where charge separation leads to distinct positive and negative regions. It also describes the magnetic field of the Earth, which approximates a magnetic dipole.
