Polarity
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008040
The property of having two opposing tendencies, such as positive and negative electrical charges or the north and south poles of a magnetic field. In atmospheric science, this concept applies to electric fields within thunderstorms, where charge separation leads to distinct regions of positive and negative charge. Lightning discharges occur when the electrical potential difference between these regions becomes sufficiently large.
