Dipole moment
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005033
A measure of the separation of positive and negative electrical charges within a system, such as a molecule or a cloud. It arises from differences in electronegativity between atoms or from the spatial arrangement of charges. Water molecules, for instance, possess a permanent dipole moment due to their bent structure, influencing their interactions in the atmosphere.
