Gamma (γ)

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001604

The Thomsen parameter for shear-wave anisotropy in a transversely isotropic medium with a vertical symmetry axis. It is approximately the fractional difference between the velocity of horizontally traveling SH waves, which move along the layering, and that of vertically traveling shear waves, and a value of zero means shear velocity does not depend on direction. With epsilon and delta it makes up the three Thomsen parameters.
