Gamma ray densitometer
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001605
A tool containing a gamma-ray source and a detector on either side of a fluid sampling path, which measures fluid density from how many gamma rays reach the detector. Denser fluid absorbs more of them, so the count rate falls as density rises, following an exponential relationship. It reads density directly rather than from a pressure gradient, so unlike a gradiomanometer it is not affected by friction or kinetic effects.
