Isotropic formation
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002056
A rock formation in which a given physical property, such as permeability or elastic modulus, has the same value when measured in any direction. In such a formation, fluids flow equally well horizontally and vertically, and seismic waves travel at the same velocity regardless of their path. In reality, most sedimentary formations are anisotropic, exhibiting different properties in the horizontal and vertical planes.
