Anisotropic
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000126
Describing a material whose physical properties, such as seismic velocity, vary with the direction of measurement. In geology, this often results from the alignment of mineral grains, the presence of fractures, or layering within the rock. Transversely isotropic media are a common type of anisotropic rock encountered in seismic exploration.
