The number of cycles of a seismic wave that pass a point per unit of time. It is measured in Hertz (Hz), where one Hertz equals one cycle per second. Higher frequencies provide better resolution but are attenuated more rapidly in the subsurface, while lower frequencies penetrate deeper.
