The number of cycles or repetitions of a periodic phenomenon per unit of time. In electrical systems, it describes the rate at which alternating current (AC) changes direction, measured in hertz (Hz). Industrial power grids in North America operate at a standard frequency of 60 Hz, while many other regions use 50 Hz.
