Clock rate

The frequency at which a central processing unit (CPU) or other digital circuit operates, measured in cycles per second or hertz (Hz). A higher clock rate indicates that the processor can execute more instructions per unit of time. Modern CPUs often operate at clock rates in the gigahertz (GHz) range.
