Central processing unit

The electronic circuitry within a computer that executes instructions comprising a computer program. It performs basic arithmetic, logic, controlling, and input/output operations specified by the instructions. The CPU is often referred to as the 'brain' of the computer, with its performance measured in clock speed (gigahertz) and the number of cores.
