Alias filter
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000090
An electronic filter applied to a seismic signal before it is digitized to remove frequencies higher than the Nyquist frequency. Removing these high frequencies prevents them from being incorrectly represented as lower frequencies in the sampled data, a phenomenon known as aliasing. The filter's cutoff is set below half the sampling rate; for a 2-millisecond sample interval, the Nyquist frequency is 250 Hz, so the filter would cut frequencies above that point.
