Aliasing
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000091
The misrepresentation of a high-frequency signal as a lower-frequency signal when the sampling rate is insufficient to capture the true frequency. This occurs when the Nyquist frequency, which is half the sampling rate, is exceeded by the signal's frequency. Aliasing can introduce artifacts into seismic data, making interpretation difficult.
