Racemic conglomerate
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009795
A mechanical mixture of crystals, each of which contains only one enantiomer. This solid phase forms when a racemate crystallizes such that the enantiomers separate into distinct crystals rather than co-crystallizing within the same lattice. The individual crystals can be physically separated, for instance, by hand-picking or preferential crystallization, a method pioneered by Louis Pasteur.
