Quasi-racemic compound

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009775

A crystalline 1:1 compound built from two quasi-enantiomers, which are closely related but constitutionally different species whose shared chiral part has opposite handedness. Its crystal packing resembles that of a true racemic compound, with the two molecular types alternating in an ordered lattice. Fredga's quasi-racemate method used the formation of such compounds, detected by melting-point diagrams, to correlate configurations of related chiral compounds.
